Am I famous yet?

I knew my last weekend in Cape Town had to be something special, but I didn't know what it was going to be, until a friend of mine asked me to do him a favour....

Johan Ackerman is studying film producing at AFDA, a South African film school based here in Cape Town, and is busy putting his post grad film together. It just so happens that the film crew needed lots and lots of extra's to create the vibe of an awesome party taking place, and so it came that I starred in my very firts movie, right here in Cape Town, on my last weekend in the Mother City.

So off I went, along with two friends, Brenda Masilela and Nicole McCain to what is surely one of the grandest flat blocks in Cape Town, right behind the CTICC.

Once there we were sweeped off to costumes and makeup and after a few minutes of pulling random pieces of cloth over my head and sticking a bunch of rainbow coloured feathers into my bra, this was the end product:

Now it was time to shine and we were told to stand chatting in different groups around the living room while a free flow of punch assured that everyone was relaxed and making enough pointless conversation to fill up three entire roles of film.

But who would have thought acting could be so much hard work!! It took just about 3 hours to film three lines of dialogue between the three main characters! The endless river of punch was soon exhausted and half the extras had already past out and still the director was not yet satisfied. My feet were killing me and the makeup was dripping from my face in buckets due to the warm camera lights!

I was sure I would be kicked off the set after almost eliminating the lead actress with a particularly risky dance move, but alas...

When all the shots from every angle possible had finally been filmed we were let off the hook. But despite the pain in our feet, the smudged makeup and utter exhaustion we felt, we all agreed that it was the most fun we had had in a long time! And one thing was sure, we were all instantly cured of any desire to ever go into the business of acting!!!

SonSakSomerSon

Iewers in die pers-blou nag
toe tyd jou soos 'n geel-wit wolf ingesluk
en jou woorde soos onvolwasse kuikens
die donker ingedra het
het jy my verloor

Iewers in die lang gewag
dat jy soos 'n ruiter van ouds
oor die berg sou stap
het jou gesig in die mis
van geykte liefdesfrases verdwyn
en het ek jou vergeet

Iewers langs die pad
waar hoop en twyfel ontmoet
in die ferm omhelsing van ou geliefdes
het my skadu van die pad verdwaal
en het ek saggies, stadig weggesink
Jou naam net 'n onvoltooide gedagte
soos die fluistering van 'n gebreekte belofte
geskryf in die sand
